CS2 Marble Fade Patterns: Fire and Ice, Tricolor and Fakes
Marble Fade is a CS2 knife and glove finish that swirls red, blue and yellow across the blade. When a paint seed keeps yellow off the playside and leaves only red and blue, the result is called Fire and Ice, the most valuable arrangement the finish produces. Everything else is either a Tricolor, the ordinary three colour case, or a fake, where yellow is visible. Marble Fade knives only exist in Factory New and Minimal Wear, because the finish is capped at a low float.

The first Max is the top of the scale and the numbers climb as a pattern drifts away from it. The rank is read on the playside, and how many ranks exist differs from one knife to another.
Max Fake is the best of the patterns where yellow has just appeared, and FFI stands for Fake Fire and Ice, below it. Neither is a counterfeit: the skin is a genuine Marble Fade, only the arrangement falls short.
What is a Fire and Ice Marble Fade?
A Fire and Ice is a Marble Fade whose playside shows only red and blue, with no yellow at all. Fire is the red, ice is the blue, and the absence of the third colour is the whole point: as soon as yellow appears on that face, the pattern is no longer a true Fire and Ice.
The arrangement comes entirely from the item's paint seed, which decides where each colour lands. It is fixed when the item is created, so a knife either is a Fire and Ice or is not, permanently.

A Tricolor is a Marble Fade showing all three colours: red, blue and yellow. Despite sounding like a special variant, it is the ordinary case. Most Marble Fades are Tricolors, and they are the reference price the rarer arrangements are measured against.
This is the most common misunderstanding about the finish. Fire and Ice is not one style among equals, it is the exception. A Tricolor is not a failed Fire and Ice either: it is simply what the finish produces most of the time.
How is the Fire and Ice ranking read?
Ranks are written from the first Max downwards. The first Max is the top of the scale, and the numbers climb as a pattern drifts away from it. The ranking is read on the playside, the face you see when the knife is held, so yellow on the back does not disqualify an example.
Below the true patterns sits the Max Fake, the best of those where yellow has just appeared, and below that the fakes proper. How far the true range extends is not settled: sources disagree with each other, and the number of ranks itself differs from one knife to another. Does a Fire and Ice seed work on any knife?
No. The same seed produces a different result from one knife to another, because the blade geometry changes where the texture lands. A number that gives a true Fire and Ice on one model can leave visible yellow on another, so a seed list built for one knife cannot be reused on a different one.
The ranking is not uniform either. How many ranks a knife has, and where the true patterns stop, are described differently from one source to the next, so treat a rank as specific to the model it was established on. Marble Fade also exists on Specialist Gloves, with a different palette and no Fire and Ice ranking.

Open the item on a showcase
Find the Marble Fade on a VSkin showcase or in Explore. Its paint seed sits next to its float value, so there is no inspect link to copy.

Read the pattern badge
If the seed falls in a ranked band, the item carries its rank. A Max Fake or Fake Fire and Ice label means yellow is present and the pattern is not a true Fire and Ice.

Open the 3D skin viewer
Click the rotate icon to load the knife in 3D at its real seed, and look for any yellow on the blade.

Judge the playside
Turn the model to the face you see when the knife is held. Only that side counts, so yellow on the back does not disqualify the pattern.
