CS2 Doppler Phases Explained: Phase 1 to 4, Ruby, Sapphire, Black Pearl and Emerald
CS2 Doppler skins come in four numbered phases plus rare variants. Doppler produces Phase 1 to Phase 4 along with Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl. Gamma Doppler is a separate finish producing its own Phase 1 to Phase 4 along with Emerald. The phase is decided by the item's paint seed and is locked in when the item is created, so it can never change. Because each phase looks different and some are far rarer, two copies of the same Doppler knife can trade at very different prices.
The Doppler badges on a showcase
Every Doppler on VSkin carries a badge summarising what its paint seed produced. These are the real badges, exactly as they appear on an item.
Every Doppler on a showcase carries its phase, in a colour that follows the finish: deep violet, pink, blue-violet, then blue. You never have to identify it from a picture.
Gamma phases use their own green palette, so a Gamma Phase 3 is never confused with the classic Phase 3 carrying the same number.
The rare finishes get their own badge and their own colour. Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl come from Doppler; Emerald comes from Gamma Doppler.

A seed that imitates a rarer variant. Both of these are genuine numbered phases and should be priced as such, not as the Black Pearl or Sapphire they resemble.
What are the CS2 Doppler phases?
A Doppler phase is one of several colour variants a Doppler finish can produce. The finish does not apply the same way to every copy: the item's paint seed selects which variant appears, and that choice is fixed when the item is created. Two Doppler knives that share a market name can therefore look nothing alike.
There are two separate families. Doppler covers Phase 1 through Phase 4 plus the rare Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl. Gamma Doppler is a different finish with its own Phase 1 through Phase 4 plus the rare Emerald. They come from different cases and are priced independently, so a Gamma Phase 2 and a Doppler Phase 2 have nothing to do with each other beyond the naming.

The reliable method is to read the item's data rather than judge by eye, because the market name says only Doppler and never which phase. On a VSkin showcase the phase is resolved from the item itself and shown on the card, so there is nothing to identify from a picture.
If you are working from an image instead, the four Doppler phases are separated by their dominant colours. Phase 1 is the darkest, built on deep violet and purple. Phase 2 carries the strongest pink and magenta. Phase 3 leans blue-violet. Phase 4 is the bluest of the four, and looks cleanest when the seed reveals a lot of blue. No classic Doppler phase contains green: green belongs to Gamma Doppler alone.
Gamma Doppler follows the same principle on a green palette: Phase 1 is cyan and turquoise, Phase 2 emerald green, Phase 3 aqua and teal, Phase 4 lime. Identifying a phase from a screenshot is unreliable in both families, because lighting and angle change the apparent colour a great deal. What is the difference between Doppler and Gamma Doppler?
They are two distinct finishes, not two versions of one. Doppler came first and produces the violet, pink and blue phases plus Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl. Gamma Doppler produces green and teal phases plus Emerald. Each comes from its own cases, so which one you own depends on where the knife dropped.
The consequence for pricing is that the two are quoted separately. A well regarded Gamma phase is not worth what an equally regarded Doppler phase is worth, and a ranking built for one family does not transfer to the other.
What are Ruby, Sapphire, Black Pearl and Emerald?
They are the rare outputs of the Doppler finishes, far scarcer than any numbered phase. Ruby is deep red, Sapphire deep blue and Black Pearl a dark shell like finish, all three from Doppler. Emerald is the equivalent from Gamma Doppler, in deep green. Because supply is a fraction of the numbered phases, they trade at a large multiple.
That scarcity is exactly why fake patterns matter here. A Phase 4 with a lot of blue can resemble a Sapphire, and a very dark Phase 1 can resemble a Black Pearl. What do Doppler labels like Max Blue and Tip mean?
They describe how much of the desirable colour a seed reveals, and where it sits. Max Blue and Max Pink mark seeds that push a phase's best colour as far as it goes, which is what buyers pay for within a phase. Tip means the colour concentrates at the blade tip, a placement the market values on its own.
Colour names such as Cyan, Lime, Green and Purple point at a specific shade a seed produces rather than a ranking. They span both families, and the green-leaning ones belong to Gamma Doppler, since the classic phases carry no green. Find the Doppler knife on a VSkin showcase or in Explore. The phase is resolved from the item's own data, so you do not need to identify it from a picture.

The item shows its phase directly, along with any tier or colour label the seed earns, such as Max Blue or Tip.

Turn the model around. Doppler value often depends on how the colour sits on each face, and a seed can be excellent on one side and plain on the other.
